Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) has built a technologically advanced laboratory complex at Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi state. The project is part of the NLNG hospital support program aimed at improving medical care and diagnostic capabilities in Nigeria.
The managing director of the company, Philip Mshelbila, expressed that the company’s impact extends beyond its primary operations in the southern region. Mshelbila expressed that the gas company has contributed to government revenues in the past 20 years.
He continued by reaffirming the company’s commitment to improve lives across Nigeria through sustainable healthcare infrastructure. According to him, the company’s mission is inspired by the collective need to improve the country’s healthcare system.
The facility is expected to support both healthcare workers and patients in providing quality medical care. Mshelbila continued that the firm has provided 12 federal university hospitals in Nigeria including facilities in the federal capital territory.

Reacting to this, the chief medical director of the teaching hospital, Yusuf Bara, applauded the company for its support. Bara emphasized that the support through the hospital support program led to the construction of the newly built laboratory complex.
According to him, the construction is a bold step in empowering the country’s healthcare system, especially in the northeast. He stated that the laboratory stands as a response to public health challenges like Lassa fever, and cancer, among others.
The doctor stressed the need for diagnostic accuracy, early disease detection and medical research for the country’s growth and sustainability. He concluded by appealing for more support in constructing and equipping a community medicine and public health complex.
