The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has emphasized that there’s no going back on the deadline for parties to register the candidates.

According to the INEC timetable, every political party is expected to submit the name of their presidential and vice-presidential candidate today, Friday, 17th of June 2022.

As revealed by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the electoral body is not willing to shift ground. While he insisted that there won’t be an extension, Oyekanmi didn’t reveal the names of candidates with the agency so far.

Also, he added that the deadline will close by 6 pm today by the electoral timetable. In May, the electoral body scheduled June 9 as the zero hours for the parties to conduct their primaries. While setting June 17 as the deadline for the registration of candidate names.

However, attention is currently on APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his running mate. There are emerging rumors that Tinubu is eyeing picking a Muslim as a running mate. A development that has received stern opposition from the Christian Association of Nigeria and other critics.

Just yesterday, his counterpart from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubarkar announced Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate. At the moment, APC is yet to meet the deadline.
