The Ondo State Governor, Arakurin Rotimi Akeredolu has bemoaned the failure of the Nigerian Police (NP) to protect citizens of Nigeria. Akeredolu revealed that the failure to protect the lives and properties of citizens will force them into self-defense.
During a meeting with Attorneys-General across the 36 States of the country, the Governor said the power of the Nigerian Police can no longer battle the security situation of the country. He urged the NP to withdraw their commitment if the Federal Government is not giving them full support.
Furthermore, he emphasized the failure of NP to fulfill their constitutional obligations of protecting citizens of the country. Recall that Ondo state recently witnessed one of the most alarming security situations in the Southwest Nigeria recently.
About two weeks ago, ISWAP as declared by the FG attacked St. Francis church in Owo, Ondo State. Owo, the hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the attack claimed 40 lives, leaving some with serious injuries.
Today, the Ondo State Government, Ondo Catholic Diocese, and the family of the deceased are bracing up for the mass burial of the victims. Therefore, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has charged the FG to do the needful before things get out of hand.
Meanwhile, the attack further strengthens the pressuring call for proper State policing. A call which the Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami have kicked against.
