The incident was confirmed in a statement released by the OAU Dental Students’ Association (IFUDSA) signed by its president, Adebayo Idris.
The student from the Department of Dentistry, whose name was not disclosed, allegedly took his own life after the release of his examination results.
The statement read: “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our colleagues in the Faculty of Dentistry,” the statement read in part.
“We have received the painful news that he took his own life shortly after the release of his examination results.
“This loss is not just the departure of a promising young mind, but a painful reminder of the silent battles many students face. As an association, we are devastated, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and all who knew him.”
The association stressed that the incident has left many in shock, struggling with unanswered questions and difficult emotions.
Students were urged to support one another and seek professional help when necessary.
“Mental health is just as important as physical health, and no one should ever feel alone in their struggles,” the statement added.
The association pledged to strengthen advocacy to improve student welfare and mental health support, further preventing similar tragedies in the future.
