A 40-year-old farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki has died from injuries sustained after a palm tree fell on him in Bogije Village, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Ogun State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 3:30pm on Sunday and was reported to the police by Gbamila Sunday later that evening.

Odutola explained that the deceased and Waheed Abbass had gone to Egbe Semi Jeje, Oke Sopen, to cut palm trees when one accidentally fell on the former.

She further provided details of how the incident reportedly happened. According to reports, Abdullahi cried out for help, and neighbors in his vicinity rushed to his aid.

After the neighbors removed the tree, he was immediately rushed to General Hospital Sagamu for treatment.

Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor upon arrival at the hospital, suspecting the heavy tree landed on a part of his body. According to Odutola, Abdullahi’s body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Additionally, the command expressed its sympathies to the family of the deceased, urging the public to follow essential safety measures while participating in tree-felling and farming activities to prevent comparable incidents.

Furthermore, the spokesperson assured that the Divisional Crime Branch is currently investigating the case to fully determine the circumstances of the incident.

She also promised that more information would be made available to the public over the course of the investigation.
