Ondo Medical Hospital decries shortage of staff

As per reports, not less than 26 medical officials have officially resigned from the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Ondo State over government’s complicity with their welfarism.

The president of the Association of Resident Doctors (ADR) in Ondo, Matthew John said this while declaring a 14-days warning strike in Akure.

He lamented the rough condition of doctors at the hospital, stating that the State Government had defaulted in the payment of their seven months’ salary arrears.

He further claimed that the doctors abandoned the hospital to seek greener pastures since the had failed in ensuring timely and adequate renumeration.

He said  “There are no staff members due to japa syndrome and there are only 22 resident doctors at UNIMEDTH compared to the previous figure of 150 resident doctors.”

He called on the government to yield to the demands of warning strike. John asked for the payment of the arrears of salary owed, payment of February 2024 palliative, February hazard and address the issue of clinical manpower shortage in the institution.

The president threatened that the medical practitioners would continue to ground activities at the state government-owned medical facility if their salaries were not paid.
