The Kano State House of Assembly has authorized the state’s Landscaping and Beautification Agency Bill 2025 imposing N25,000 on anyone found littering, urinating, or defecating in public places.

According to the house, the bill aimed to promote cleanliness and beauty of the state.

The bill was the outcome of deliberations on the committee of the whole and third reading by the deputy clerk Alhaji Nasiru Magaji during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Jibril Isma’il.The agency in charge will set up gardens, plant flowers and prevent indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state.

A board comprising a Chairman and 10 members, including experts in engineering and beautification will govern the agency.

“The agency established by the bill would be responsible for setting up gardens, planting flowers, and preventing indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roundabouts, drainages, bridges, and roads. The agency will also prevent the indiscriminate dumping of trash and spitting from moving vehicles, checkmate open defecation, and make the city look beautiful”.

“The agency will be governed by a board comprising a Chairman and 10 members, including professionals, like architects, who are knowledgeable in engineering and beautification,” the majority leader said.
