The Oyo state police command on Thursday apprehended a 26-year-old school gateman, identified as Josiah Ayomide, for raping a four-year-old pupil at his school in Ibadan.

The Oyo state Police PRO, Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this while addressing the press at the police headquarters, Eleyele in Ibadan.

According to Osifeso, the victim complained of pains in her private parts to her eldest sister.

He explained that the victim later told her mother that her school gateman had unlawfully raped her while she was in school.

Osifeso added that the suspect confessed to the crime following his arrest.

He said, “The victim was taken to Police Medical Clinic Eleyele, Ibadan, for medical examination and treatment, and the medical report revealed that the hymen was not intact, with tenderness around the vulva and vagina, accompanied by bruises.

“The suspect would be prosecuted upon completion of investigation.”

Recall that, few weeks ago, the Bauchi state police command arrested not less than five men for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in the Zadawa community, Misau Local Government Area.

According to reports, the suspects belonged to a syndicate that repeatedly lured the victim with #500 and raped her at different times and locations.

Reported on the 12th of August, 2025, by the victim’s parent, who claimed that in July, several individuals lured their daughter with money and assaulted her at different locations.

In view of this, advocacy groups, such as Stand to End Rape Initiative and Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative, have repeatedly called on state governments and educational authorities to always perform a thorough background check of school personnel, regular monitoring, and community awareness program to prevent such crimes.
