Peter Obi creates TikTok account days after El-Rufai

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has created a TikTok account days after the former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai created his account.

Mr Obi, a former governor of Anambra State on Tuesday announced via his X handle that he had joined TikTok.

The 63-year-old stated that he opened the account as part of his commitment to nation-building.

He said: “This is my official and only TikTok page. Kindly join me towards building a new Nigeria that is possible.”

A report revealed that Mr El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), created the TikTok page to engage Nigerians on political issues and his new party’s activities.

According to Premium Times review the TikTok page had gained over 10.7k followers, while Mr Obi’s announcement video had garnered 25.3k views, 5,636 likes, and 1,680 comments.

Netizens have reacted over Mr Obi’s creation of the TikTok page, with a mix of criticism and praise

.Some of the comments reads:

@BashirAhmaad commented, “You (Peter Obi) copied from Malam Nasir el-Rufai?” (sic)

Meanwhile, @abazwhyllzz said, “Welcome our president,hope when you become president you won’t ban it oo🙏🏻”(sic)

Another X user, @bummiearo stated, “Calm down with your lies on Tiktok. We will detect it”(sic)

@Nedumcity posted, “Welcome to TikTok. We have been waiting and missing you. Let me go and activate my account asap.” (sic)

Meanwhile, @justomodiagbe opined, “Hope it was not Mallam that you (Peter Obi) copied. You want to turn to content creation. It is a big market though. Goodluck on your presidential ambition 2027.”(sic)
