Peter Obi donates ₦10M to nursing college, pledges support for healthcare development

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has proofed his commitment to education, healthcare, and empowerment as drivers of national development which he displayed through his visit to Mater Misericordiae College of Nursing Sciences in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.

This was revealed via his X handle on Friday, where he established his tour visiting experience to the institution, praising its roles and contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

He said thus, “Established in 1946, it is one of Nigeria’s pioneering healthcare institutions.

“Its Schools of Nursing and Midwifery, founded in 1952 and 1953, have produced thousands of professionals who continue to play vital roles in the medical field,” Obi wrote.

Obi further acknowledged the school’s infrastructural upgrades with about 1,000 students onboard and pledged his commitment to collaborate with them and support their efforts, he then made an initial donation of 10 million naira.

“The college currently has about 1,000 students and is undertaking several infrastructural upgrades. To support their efforts, I reaffirmed my commitment to collaborating with them in training Nigerian healthcare professionals and made an initial donation of ₦10 million,” he said.

While addressing the students, he established the importance of healthcare and its role in human development and commended nurses and medical practitioners for their role in national progress.

He urged the students to remain dedicated to their studies especially in light of the increasing global demand for healthcare workers.

He said thus, “In my address to the students, I underscored the importance of healthcare as a fundamental indicator of human development and acknowledged the invaluable role of nurses and medical practitioners in national progress. I urged them to remain dedicated to their studies, especially in light of the increasing global demand for healthcare workers.

Obi further praised the institution’s staffs for their good works and extends appreciation to the Ebonyi State Government for its commitment to the school.

“I also commended the institution’s staff for their dedication and the remarkable work they are doing. Additionally, I appreciate the Ebonyi State Government for its collaboration with the school in the shared interest of the state and the nation,” he said.
