Homicide detectives of the Osun State Police Command have launched an investigation into the cause of the death of one, identified as Halimat.
The deceased’s lifeless body was reportedly found dumped along the Ogo Iluwa area in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to sources, she was reportedly discovered by officers of the Osun State Police Command after a distress call alerted them to the presence of a corpse in the vicinity.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, who confirmed the incident stated that law enforcement officers were immediately deployed to the scene, where they found the body alongside an item resembling a suicide note.
Ojelabi said: “Upon arrival, our operatives recovered the remains of a woman identified as Halimat at the back of a mosque.
“A strong chemical odour, suspected to be that of Sniper, was also perceived at the location.”
The Police PRO added that preliminary assessments showed no visible signs of physical assault or violence on the body, lending weight to the possibility of suicide.
“A handwritten note believed to be a suicide note was found near the scene. Given the absence of injuries and the chemical scent, there are indications that the deceased may have taken her own life,” he said.
According to the police spokesperson, a relative of the deceased has since been located and is cooperating with investigators, offering details that could assist in clarifying the circumstances leading to Halimat’s death.
Ojelabi assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to uncover the full story behind the incident.
