Two students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Markurdi, Benue State, have been kidnapped by gunmen outside the University Campus.

Official sources indicated that only two female students were abducted. However, sources among the students said the gunmen went away with four female students identified as Emmanuella, Fola, Susan, and Ella.

Reports disclosed that the female students were kidnapped on their way from a night class on Tuesday.

According to Punch, a student of the institution, Ashar Lubem confirmed the abduction through telephone conversation. On Wednesday, the student discussed how the incident has created a huge unrest among the student populace.

Lubem stated that the students are eagerly waiting to see their colleagues regain freedom. Also, Benue Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, said the police alongside other relevant authorities have commenced investigation.

She disclosed that the command only received a report of two missing students being kidnapped. Meanwhile, the students are currently protesting against the university management and the state government demanding the release of the students.

More so, the institution is yet to issue a statement clarifying the whole confusion. The public relations officer of the university, Roseline Waku promised to get back with details.
