National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu has urged communities, government, and religious leaders to cooperate in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Ribadu made this known in his Eid-el-fitr message on Sunday, stressing the need for collective efforts to improve security. By that, he went on to urge Nigerians to embrace peace, empathy, kindness, and other values to strengthen and maintain the security of the country.

He added that cooperation from all sectors is key to combating terrorism and extremism, ensuring that Nigeria is safe. The Security Adviser also urged Nigerians to maintain all the values gathered during Ramadan for peace and national unity.

He concluded his speech by calling on Nigerians to be vigilant against forces that are threatening the security of the country. Meanwhile, the latest speech from the Special Adviser emanated after the FG announced a special operations force program that will enhance the country’s effectiveness in combating terrorism.

According to Punch, as part of the program, 800 soldiers were selected from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, and Navy. Minister of Defense, Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed that the training will build a highly skilled force that can execute operations successfully.

Abubakar noted that security challenges in the country call for elite forces with good training in advanced tactics operations. Abubakar stressed that the special operations force will serve as a critical pillar that will secure the nation’s sovereignty.

The minister, while unveiling the 800 soldiers in Kaduna added that the program will later expand for the inclusion of more personnel. He noted that 2400 trainees are needed to develop world-class special operations within the armed forces of Nigeria.

Abubakar stressed the importance of the program, noting that the training will also lead to faster convergence and effectiveness. The minister added that he is optimistic that the force would defeat terrorism and counter-insurgency threatening the Nation.

He concluded by advising the soldiers to embrace the challenges and responsibilities that lie ahead with a dedicated and committed Spirit. He also encouraged them to have the right mindset to scale through the rigorous training they will encounter.
