Veteran Nigerian singer, Saheed Osupa has filed a petition against another singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable for defamation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi disclosed this in a statement on Monday. According to the statement, the Kwara State Police Command arrested Portable on Saturday following the receipt of the petition.

The petition submitted by the Fuji artist borders on serious allegations which include criminal defamation, character assassination, and the use of derogatory words. Additionally, Osupa accused Portable of threat to life, incitement, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

As a result of the evidence presented by the complainant and the degree of the allegations, the command secured an arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin.

Consequently, the command’s operatives arrested Portable in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, and took him to Ilorin for further investigation.

Additionally, the PPRO revealed that the suspect is still in custody and the command will be charging him in court without hesitation.

Adetoun went on to reiterate the command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while ensuring transparency and fairness in justice. She also called on Nigerians to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information.

Lastly, the PPRO promised that the Kwara Command would keep the public updated on the case as the investigation progresses.

The current incident makes it the second occasion in 2025 on which the police will be detaining Portable. Recall that in February, the Ogun State Police Command declared him wanted for assaulting some Urban & Planning officers on duty.

Less than 48 hours after the Police declared Portable wanted, he turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department. After this, he was transferred to the Ogun State Police Command where he was detained and arraigned in court.
