The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo Olu, unveiled the first African feature film on Artificial Intelligence (AI) titled “Makenation” on Sunday. Sanwo Olu said at the unveiling in Marina that renowned human development expert, Toyosi Akerele, Ogunsiji produced the movie.
The governor also praised the producer and cast, for their creativity to collaborate and transform ideas that develop the state industry. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in essential infrastructure to enable the creative sector to thrive.
Sanwo Olu also disclosed that the AI movie will make its cinematic debut in Lagos on Friday, 18th April. Meanwhile, Akerele stated that the movie explores themes such as education, digital skills, financial literacy, and gender equality.
She disclosed that Makenation, starring Ibrahim Chatta, Toyin Afolayan, and other popular actors examines the intersection of real life and AI. The producer also said that the movie explores artificial intelligence’s transformative power and its impact on the fourth industrial revolution.
She noted that success is not reserved for a selected few and that Nigerian movies should showcase indigenous innovations. However, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson, highlighted the government’s effort to empower creative arts over the past six years.
Benson disclosed that the ministry has trained nearly 20,000 young Nigerians in filmmaking, content creation, and other creative fields. She stressed that technology is the key to the industry’s future with Lagos positioning itself as a leader in digital innovation.
