Senate Committee on Sports Chairman, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, has assured the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Eagles of the Senate’s support, urging them to give their best effort to secure maximum points in their next two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The senator representing Bauchi central senatorial district in an exclusive interview with BSN Sports on Wednesday said the senate through his office has asked the federation, despite the difficulty, to do everything possible to get the World Cup ticket.

He said, “When the NFF leadership was here before the Senate, we urged them to do all it takes to win these matches. There should be no excuses because I am personally apprehensive of our possibility of going to World Cup.”

“I know that it will take a very tough toll on Nigerians. We must win these two games first to be assured of picking the ticket. On our part, we must motivate these players to make sure that they are in the best spirits”, he added

“All hands must be on the deck, there is no reason for complacency. Ordinarily, in the past, when you hear that Nigeria want to play Rwanda, you go to bed and conclude that Nigeria will win but now, it’s no longer same. I pray that God gives us victory because we need it for the spirits of Nigerians to be high.” He added further.

The 2013 African champions find themselves in a tough spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, sitting fifth in their group with just three points from four matches. Group leaders Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin Republic are tied at the top with seven points each, while Lesotho holds fourth place with five points from four games.

Only the team that finishes at the summit of the group at the end of the qualifiers will secure an automatic ticket to the Mundial.
