Vice President Kashim Shettima has condemned the latest Boko Haram attack on Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, assuring that justice will be served for the victims and their families.
At least 63 people, including five soldiers, were killed when insurgents stormed the community on Friday night, opening fire on residents and burning houses, shops, and vehicles. Survivors said the attackers operated for several hours before military reinforcement arrived.
Speaking in a statement released by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday, Shettima said the Federal Government shares the grief of Borno people and is determined to hold the perpetrators accountable.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots,” he said.

The Vice President explained that President Bola Tinubu has ordered a review of security operations across the country, with the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance drones to counter insurgents.
“These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” Shettima added.
He also noted that the Federal Government is considering the establishment of state police to tackle peculiar security challenges at the grassroots, stressing that specialised units familiar with local terrain and culture are needed to overcome insurgency.
Shettima assured the people of Borno State of continued federal support and prayed for the bereaved families.
