A devastating flood in Sokoto state has wreaked havoc across Bodinga and Shagari local governments in the state. The disaster, which occurred on Thursday, destroyed thousands of farmlands, houses and ravaged the local market.
It was gathered that more than 3000 farmlands were destroyed in Badau village and 75 farmlands in the Bukutu area of the state. A joint delegation from the state emergency agency and emergency operations office confirmed the incident on Sunday.
The delegation, led by the Sema director, Malam Umar, and the NEMA planning officer, Tukur Abubakar, visited the communities to verify the damage level. The team was received by Councillor Sanusi Mahe and the councillor for Social Development, Sheu Karoga.
During the visit, Umar disclosed that the ongoing road construction by the state governor had reduced the scale of destruction. He assured the communities that their findings would be forwarded to relevant authorities for a prompt humanitarian response.

Meanwhile, Umar emphasized the urgent need for relief interventions to reduce the impact of the disaster. In addition, he expressed condolences to the bereaved family of a seven-year-old boy who died in a building during the flood incident.
According to residents, the two siblings of the deceased, Ayman and Abubakar, sustained injuries from the building collapse. Furthermore, Umar, in his condolence prayers, wished the injured children, sons of 37-year-old Sani Lumu, a speedy recovery.
Similarly, Sarkin Yamman Badau has called for state and federal government intervention concerning the flood incident. Yaman Badau described the situation as devastating, as farmlands, houses and livelihoods were badly hit.
