The Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has called on the Federal Government to shun fuel subsidy in the country. Soludo argued that the subsidy on fuel should be the sole responsibility of the FG and not the state government.
He went on to question the decision to retain subsidy on petroleum and still make state governments pay for it. Soludo insisted that failure to remove it will further spell doom for the country.
Furthermore, The Governor stated that subsidy removal should have been long done before now. He said the refusal to remove it will continue to purge money from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Also, Soludo addressed the launching of the Nigeria Development Update (NDU) by the World Bank. Speaking at the launching ceremony, he opined that the remedy to the country’s crisis is not beyond its reach.
He concluded that there are numerous options for the FG to explore towards restoring the glory of Nigeria. However, Soludo revealed that what has been holding the progress so far is a lack of commitment.
