Strike continues as ASUU and FG meeting ends in deadlock

ASUU to meet Federal Government tomorrow

The industrial strike continues as the meeting between the Academic staff union of Nigerian university, ASUU and federal government ended in a gridlock yesterday.

According to ASUU President, Prof. Osodeke Emmanuel, “Professor Nimi Briggs headed the meeting with the FG’s team. There was no new offer on the table; they simply begged us to call off the strike”., ASUU

According to a top ministry official, The lecturers left the venue angrily. He said, “though we cannot ascertain what was discussed with them as you can see, we were not invited, but the proposal presented was rejected,”

A member of the ASUU National Executive Committee who asked not to be quoted stated the government was “unserious” with the negotiations.

The union President further stated, “We didn’t sign anything; they did not come with anything good. I can’t go into details. We will talk to our members first before we talk to the press. We represent our members.’’
