The Falcons of Sudan and Nigeria’s Super Eagles B are bracing for a decisive showdown this evening as both sides chase their first victory in Group D of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Zanzibar. With qualification hopes hanging by a thread, the stakes are sky-high at the 15,000-capacity Amaan Stadium.
Nigeria Eagles, runners-up in the 2018 edition, suffered a narrow defeat to title-holders Senegal last week, losing 1-0 to a side that scored with their only shot on target. The result left today’s clash against Sudan a win-or-bust affair for Coach Eric Chelle’s men.

“I just want to win this game against Sudan; this is my game project,” Chelle said on Monday. “We are under pressure but we are ambitious. This game is the most important for us because a win can bring something good for the team.”
Sudan are equally desperate, having been denied maximum points in their opener against Congo by a late equaliser. Head coach Kwesi Appiah has, however, promised a fearless approach against Nigeria.
“Nigeria is one of the biggest nations in African football and we respect them, but we won’t fear them,” he said. “I don’t see any player as a threat, but the entire team.” Kick-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
