The Nigerian Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu seeking his removal over an alleged link with the US Central Intelligence Agency alongside other drug-related allegations.

The lawsuit was filed by Hope Democratic Party Candidate in the 2019 general election Ambrose Aworu, Punch reported. Notably, it sought the President’s removal of his alleged link with drug-related allegations alongside the US CIA.

However, the Nigerian Apex court has dismissed the lawsuit in a unanimous decision reached by a five-member panel led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji.

The court concluded that the suit was frivolous and ordered Owuru to pay a fine of N5 million. The court also warned the Supreme Court registry against accepting any additional frivolous summons from the plaintiff.

Owuru’s lawsuit alleged that the President is an active CIA agent, among other things. According to him, this makes President Tinubu unfit to occupy his position.

Additionally, Owuru prayed the court to disqualify President Tinubu over allegations that he forfeited $460,000 to the US Government in a drug-related case.

Interestingly, Owuru’s lawsuit against Tinubu follows a similar one filed against former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, the lawsuit’s dismissal comes amid a recent statement by the All Progressive Congress (APC) suggesting that President Tinubu is not threatened by potential opposition alliances in 2027.

Tinubu not threatened by possible 2027 opposition alliance

The APC has disclosed that the President is not threatened by the recent visit of some dignitaries to ex-President Obasanjo. The visitors include the Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Sen. Rabiu Kwakwanso, and former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke.

Their visit comes amid reports of a possible opposition alliance to compete against APC in the 2027 Presidential election.

However, the APC noted that the party alongside the President are not threatened by the opposition. Last week, the party also explained that the opposition can not unseat the President in 2027.
