Men of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested one 35-year-old Ewulu Chikwo, who confessed to being among the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB who killed a policewoman in 2022.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest was in collaboration with the security operatives working under the newly launched Operation Udo Ga Achi.

Ikenga stated that the suspect confessed he belongs to a gang that enforces the abolished sit-at-home protest earlier declared by the separatist group IPOB.

He noted that the policewoman, Inspector Stella Maris was gruesomely murdered during the attack on the Ukpor Divisional Police Headquarters in the year 2022.

Ikenga said, “Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad/Anti-Kidnapping unit acting on credible information on 25th April 2025 busted a criminal camp at Osumoghu Isieke Village, Ihiala LGA.

“They arrested one Ewulu Chikwo, male, aged 35 years. The suspect and his gang members were allegedly planning to enforce illegal Sit-At-Home in the area the following Monday.

“During the interrogation of the suspect, he confessed to being a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and also among the armed criminals who attacked the Ukpor Divisional Police Headquarters in the year 2022 where a policewoman, Inspector Stella Maris was gruesomely murdered.”

Ikenga further stressed that the Joint Security Force has intensified patrols in the area while the State Police Command assured swift action on any security information, especially as it affects the arrest of other gang members in the area
