Angry youths in Ogun State have organised a protest over the death of bystander Jide Oyeleke, killed by a hit-and-run driver. The accident happened at Ewusi Road, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Sunday.
In response to the incident, the youths demanded justice and the immediate installation of speed breakers on the road. Confirming the incident, Ogun traffic agency spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi said the accident was caused by reckless driving by suspected fraudsters.
Akinbiyi referenced a witness stating that the accident was due to excessive speed, which led to instability of the car. This caused the vehicle to ram into a barber shop and instantly kill the presumed dead man.

The spokesperson added that the victim’s body has been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University morgue. Meanwhile, the affected vehicle of the suspects has been towed to the Sagamu police station.
A similar case occurred on Monday when a 500-level student of the state university was arrested for killing a couple. Akinbiyi disclosed that Victor Onakoya was arrested by the police after he was nearly lynched due to the accident fatalities.
He stated that a mob had gathered but was dispersed by police, preventing the lynching and burning of the driver and vehicle. The victims, Dare Adeyemi and Shadia Oshifuyi, were reportedly heading to a street called B junction when the incident happened.
A senior police officer who witnessed the incident disclosed that Oshifuyi died at the spot, while Adeyemi died from sustained injuries. The Ogun state police public relations officer, Omolola Odulola, has yet to respond to queries regarding the incident.
