The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one year extension for the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Custom Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. The development was made via a statement released on the official X page of the President’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Thursday.
“The Presidency announces that the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, which is due to expire on August 31, 2025, has been extended by one year,” the statement reads in part.
As revealed, the Comptroller-General’s tenure, originally set to come to an end on the 31st of August, 2025, has been extended till August 2026. Onanuga in the statement revealed that the President’s decision to extend Adeniyi’s tenure is intended to strengthen Adeniyi’s ongoing reforms and complete the critical initiatives within his administration. These initiatives include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service.
“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,“ the statement added.
Recall that, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi was appointed as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria custom service on October 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. A year before, he was conferred with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) by late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
