The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated two British-Nigerians , Opeyemi Bright and Jason Jackson on their successful election and inauguration as Mayors in London.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the two British-Nigerians for upholding the legacy of good works by Nigerians abroad.
Tinubu also applauded them for their honesty, integrity, hard work and their commitment towards the well-being of others.
He also noted that their stories will encourage several youths, home and abroad to strive for excellence and serve their communities with distinction.
He said, “On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Mayors Opeyemi Bright and Jason Jackson. I urge you to continue giving your best in your new roles as the first citizens of Barking and Dagenham, and Islington.
“I have every confidence in your abilities and look forward to the positive impact you will make in your respective boroughs.”
According to report, Bright was inaugurated as the Civic Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, breaking ground as the borough’s youngest-ever Mayor at the age of 29, after seven years of dedication and service to her community.
Prior to when she became a Mayor, she was once the borough’s youngest Labour Councilor at 22, a feat she accomplished in 2018.
Also, Jackson became the First Nigerian born Mayor of Islington ever since the borough’s establishment in 1900. He was first elected as a Councilor in 2022 and became the Committee Chairman of Islington’s Homes.
