Yobe Commissioner does in a car crash hours after attending friend’s funeral

Yobe State Commissioner for Youth, Sport, Social and Community Development, Goni Bukar Lawan, has died in a motor accident along Damaturu-Kano Highway. Lawan was a former member of House of Representatives, representing Busari, Geidam and Yunusari federal constituency.

It was gathered that the late commissioner had attended the burial of his friend, Hassan Gambo, the director of Finance and supply of the Upstream Of NNPC. He was going to Kano for an official trip before the accident occurred.

Bauchi state Federal Road Safety Corps sector commander, Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the incident on Wednesday. According to Yusuf, the accident happened on Tuesday night around 6:15 pm.

He stated, “The lone fatal crash occurred on Tuesday at about 6.15 pm and immediately we were informed, our men rushed to the scene within 12 minutes for a rescue operation.

“The incident happened along Dambam – Potiskum road, adjacent to A.Y. Dagauda Fueling Station at Dagauda Village, along Kum in Dambam local government area of Bauchi state.

“It involved a government vehicle, a Lexus Jeep – GX 470 – with registration number: 11A01YB.

“The vehicle was driven by Hon. Goni Bukar Lawn and he was with one other male adult when the crash happened. The other person sustained some injuries.

“The crash was caused by a speed violation which led to a loss of control.”

He further stated the victims were evacuated to Dambam General hospital for treatment and confirmation.
