Ondo Catholic Diocese has announced that the Mass Burial of the Owo Massacre victims will hold on Friday, June 17, 2022. The Director of Social Communication of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Rev. Fr Augustine Ikwu made this revelation while addressing the media in Akure.
According to him, he revealed that the program will take place at the St Francis Catholic Church Cemetery in Emure, Owo. The church disclosed that the attack claim the lives of over 40 worshipers, while others are still in the hospital.
Furthermore, the hospitalized victims are receiving care from numerous hospitals in Ondo State. Despite emerging rumors regarding the arrest of the terrorist who carried out the attack, the Ondo State Police Command has debunked the rumors. The Police confirmed that prosecutors are all across the State to investigate every trace of the preparators.
Since reports about the ugly incident surfaced, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has received sympathizers from different parts of the country. Most notably the Vice President of the Country, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and APC Presidential Aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who donated N75 million to the victims.
Meanwhile, there are emerging concerns about the presence of these terrorists across South-West Nigeria. Iconic writer, Professor Wole Soyinka during his visit to Akure revealed that the attack is a sign to the entire region. Therefore, he charged the State Governor, Arakurin Rotimi Akeredolu to prepare alongside other Governors in the region.
