Ondo State GovernorStateimi Akeredolu has directed a Head of Service to dismiss officers who are receiving double salaries. He made this known on Wednesday while receiving the report of the Committee established for Verification, Scrutinisation, and Clean-up of the State Payroll.

According to the report, the governor assembled a seven-men committee following suspicion that state payroll has been compromised. The committee was led by Mr. Victor Olajorin, the Chairman and former Secretary of the Ministry of Finance.

Receiving the report, Governor Akeredolu said”We have an over-bloated workforce, and undoubtedly, I am sure there are many ghost workers.

Those who are receiving double salaries, apart from recovering the money from them, I am directing the Head of Service to get them dismissed. They must serve as deterrents to others,” he said.

The report revealed the sum of N304,859,812.51 was discovered as the aggregate loss to the state government from TESCOM. Also, the sum of N192,873,592 was recovered from Hospital management Board.

The report led to the discovery of unhealthy practices such as abscondment, study leaves without pay, and payment of salaries to officers while some workers could not be traced to any health facilities.

According to the committee chairman, a total of N497,733,404 has been identified from TESCOM and HMB.
