Allah has given us Nigeria as inheritance, reason for Fulanis invasion of Yoruba land – former Amotekun boss

Rtd Brigadier General Kunle Togun has accused the Fulanis of feeling entitled to Nigeria. Togun, the former chairman of the Western Nigerian Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, said the tribe is on a mission to take over southwest Nigeria.

The security expert made the disclosure on a podcast featuring journalists in Ibadan. During the discussion, Togun illuminated the degree of security in the southwest.

Togun criticized the past administration of Muhammadu Buhari for the surge of criminals into the region.

Further, the ex-military personnel said the new administration has not done things differently, and the region has seen an increased influx of bandits. He recalled how the criminals had turned deaf ears to surrendering their arms.

Also, he pointed to the mass migration of Fulani herders from neighboring countries into the region. The former Amotekun chairman said the exodus of the herders to southwest Nigeria is to claim the region from its initial occupants.

Backing his claims, Togun cited a statement from a Fulanin national movement gathering in Kano 5 years ago. He quoted Fulani herders saying ”Allah has given us Nigeria as inheritance.” This statement according to Togun is their justification to invade the region.

Meanwhile, most of the claims by the former Amotekun chairman have not been verified, still, it underlines the disconnection between the security outfit and the federal government of Nigeria.

Following its establishment in January 2020 as the first security organization set up by a geopolitical zone in Nigeria, Amotekun endured serious opposition from the FG. The FG shortly after the inauguration of the outfit declared it illegal, claiming it lacks constitutional merit.

A forceful u-turn by the FG allowed Amotekun to exist, contributing to the security of southwest Nigeria.
