Some unidentified assailants have killed an All Progressive Congress (APC) politician, Oluwatosin Onamade, in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

According to reports, Oluwatosin was an aspirant for the chairmanship position of Ijede Local Council Development Area as an APC member. The deceased’s brother, Oluwafemi Onamade, in an interview with newsmen, said that the incident happened at the deceased’s house in Ijede at about 9pm on Saturday.

Femi explained that the assailants were clad in black outfits, making them unrecognizable. He noted that they shot at his brother and when the bullets were not penetrating his body, the attackers hacked him to death with a machete.

Additionally, Femi suspected that his brother’s death had a connection to his political ambition. He explained how his late brother already won the hearts of many voters, fueling the possibility of his emergence.

Furthermore, the deceased’s brother explained that his brother had survived a similar attack carried out on him in 2021.

The deceased in an interview with PUNCH in 2021, narrated his traumatic near-death experience with alleged political assassins on 16 April 2021. Then, Oluwatosin recalled how he received phone calls with threats to attack the APC leadership meetings he mostly host in his house.

He added that when the assailants could not gain access to his compound on that day, they went to the party secretariat in Ijede LCDA to wreak havoc. Additionally, the assailants killed one of his staff members, Ifeanyi Godfrey.

The deceased noted that his brother, Femi, had survived the attack alongside him on that day. When contacted, a friend of the deceased, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed sorrow that the assailants, who had been intent on killing Tosin, ultimately succeeded.

He emphasized that such incidents have become increasingly common in the area and called on authorities to ensure justice. The APC body at both council and state levels has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

Furthermore, when contacted on Monday, the State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that the command had been informed and that investigations had begun.
