About 1,000 members of the Okpoko community in Ogbaru Local Government of Anambra State have bemoaned the exorbitant billing by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

The community members berated EEDC for not discharging their duties, yet billing them heavily. Residents of the community described how electricity hasn’t been stable in the area, still, the DISCO keep forcing them to cough out billions.

Additionally, residents of the Okpoko community warned EEDC to desist from the act of extortion. They threatened to embark on a mass action if such persists.

Furthermore, the residents revealed that they’ve drawn out a list of their grievances towards EEDC. One of the residents, Obumneke Ohiagu recalled how the community engaged the company on numerous occasions to address their grievances. Yet, it all fell on their deaf eyes.

While addressing the situation, EEDC Head of Public Communications, Emeka Ezeh denied all the allegations. He insisted that the community got billed base on the energy it consumed. He urged them to contact the right authority to air their grievances.

Lastly, members of the community called on the Federal Government to intervene in the issue. They concluded that only the intervention of the FG could save them from the outrageous billing.
