FG to open student application loan portal May 24

Federal Government has announced May 24 as the date for the opening of the Nigeria student loan application portal

Akintunde Sawyerr, the Managing Director of NELFUND, Nigerian Education Loan Fund disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

He further added that this development is a mile stone for Nigerians and also to show the commitment of President bola Ahmed Tinubu as this was one of his promises he made to the country.

Bear in mind, on June 12, 2023 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, signed the Access Higher Education Law into Bills, giving the underprivileged student the opportunity to pursuit further Education

He then urge all eligible Nigeria student to make use of the opportunity to invest to their future and contribute greater to the country.

The fund covers the student tuition fees, living expenses and charges in their various Government owned schools

Eligibility For the loan

Nasir Ayitogo the spokesperson for the Access to higher Education fund had previously made it known to the public that only those in Public institution sector are eligible to the loan

In Recent development, the loan opportunity has been stretched to those seeking skill-development programs, I.e those who wants to seek or learn vocational and technical skill in government owned institutions.

Criteria for the loan

In new development, contrary to the then laid down criteria Statement of Family income of all applicants has been removed

The intending students do not need any Guarantor to stand for them before they can acquire the fund which is was a major determinant as of last year

In addition the Parent loan history also is not a prerequisite for eligibility of this 2024 Act of Access to Higher Education Loan.
