The Labour Party through its national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, has announced that it has not zoned its 2027 presidential ticket.

Ifoh in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, was reacting to reports saying that the party had zoned out its presidential ticket to South-East.

The publicity secretary maintained that the party would not zone any of its positions to any geographical zone or individual. He clarified a report credited to the national Party chairman, Julius Abure, by explaining that the chairman was quoted out of context.

Recall that on Sunday, Abure disclosed that he had no regret zoning the party’s presidential ticket to the South-East in advance of the 2027 election. He also pledged the party’s support to help Ndigbo fulfill his ambition of ruling the country.

According to reports, Abure disclosed this at a rally organized by Labour Party members from the South-East ahead of the Abuja area council election next year.

However, Ifoh clarified that the chairman’s statement did not refer to the party zoning its 2027 ticket to the South-East. He explained that the chairman was only advising some South-East members on how Ndigbo could achieve their ambition of the Presidency.

The secretary further stressed that Abure was trying to denote the Labour Party as a perfect platform for the aspirations of Ndigbo.

Additionally, Ifoh maintained that candidates for every position must emerge through a democratic and competitive process as the party does not permit zoning.

However, he stated that these concerns reflect the level of love, trust, and support that Nigerians have for the party.

Ifoh emphasized that this demonstrated the strong support and commitment of Nigerians to restoring democracy in the country.
