The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has on Friday said it has revoked the broadcast licences of Silverbird TV, African Independence Television(AIT), amongst others. The broadcast stations that are owned by DAAR Communications Limited, including AIT and Raypower FM station, are affected.

The Director-General of the NBC, MallamBalarabe Shehu, who made the disclosure on Friday, said the development followed the failure of the media houses to renew their broadcast licences.

He also directed its state offices to liaise with security agencies to ensure the shut down of the operation of the stations within the next 24 hours.

Balarabe disclosed this to journalists at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja that the stations owe over N2.5bn.

He then warned to disconnect internet TV operators and revoke the licenses of traditional broadcasters whose licenses have not been renewed and enjoined those stations who are yet to register with the commission to do that in the next 30 days to avoid sanctions.
