The nine surveyors kidnapped in Akure North local government area of Ondo state have regained their freedom.

The surveyors were abducted by some gunmen while on-site at Ilu-Abo on Tuesday last week and were reported to regain their freedom last night.

Afrocover recalls that women in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday, trooped out in their hundreds to protest the abduction of the nine surveyors.

Armed with placards with various inscriptions, the women converged on Ijemikin in Akure at the residence of the Ejeminkin of Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo where they condemned the surge in the rate of kidnapping in the state recently.

Confirming the development, Pastor Ajibade Owolanke, a brother to the Ejemikin of Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo, said the abducted surveyors were released last night after the payment of N20 million ransom.

Pastor Owolanke also confirmed that the surveyors had arrived in Akure but refused to reveal their location.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Police Command has yet to confirm the development.
