The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 12 suspects for allegedly carrying out serious crimes including working as informants for kidnappers. According to the command, some of the suspects played a huge role in the abduction of some persons within Ondo state in recent times.

Recall that last week, Afrocover reported that nine surveyors were abducted at a site in the Ilu Abo community in Akure North area of Ondo state last week. The victims, according to the report, regained their freedom after spending up to a week in the kidnappers’ den.

However, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed on Tuesday, that security agencies had captured some of the criminals terrorizing the state. Afolabi noted that some of the suspects worked as informants for the kidnappers to provide information relating to their victims or targets.

The suspects according to the CP include Abdullahi Mallam Bala, Komolafe Sunday, Umaru Abubakar, and Yusuf Ahmadu. He narrated that the command coordinated various raids within the area to apprehend the syndicate.

In another positive development, the state command said it arrested a duo identified as Ridwan Salisu, 45 years, and Umar Isyaku, aged 19, for kidnapping. The CP confirmed that Salisu had more than N3 million in his possession, claiming he uses the funds for his POS business.

Furthermore, the CP also disclosed that four people are currently in police custody for their involvement in activities relating to cultism and vandalism in the state.

Afolabi said the suspects are Awosika Babajide, Michael Peter, Kunle Akinwande, and  Akintemi Akinwunmiju. Lastly, he said some of them confessed their participation in the crimes.

Similarly, the police arrested one Samuel Friday on March 14, 2025, for vandalizing a transformer in the Ilu Abo. The CP narrated how the suspect confessed that he started vandalizing transformers in 2016, revealing he had served three jail terms before his eventual release in 2018.
