Protests erupt across Ibadan again over Naira Scarcity

Angry residents of Ibadan, Oyo State have taken to the streets to express their displeasure towards the seemingly unending Naira Scarcity and the alleged rejection of old naira notes by commercial banks.

The residents around the Sango-Eleyele axis, while expressing their anger, blocked major roads, linking the areas together. The angry Protesters blocked the roads using improvised materials and even burning tires, in some places.

The protest which focuses on the issue of naira scarcity also features reactions on fuel scarcity alongside the country’s economic situation. It is worth noting that the protest comes following a similar one held earlier this month across several towns in the state.

While expressing displeasure at the CBN directives, several individuals noted that the policy was only meant to inconvenience Nigerians. Others however justified the protest by describing it as a “necessary evil.”

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Operation Burst unit reacted to the protests by clearing the obstacles on the road. However, protesters blocked the roads again as soon as the law enforcement agents left the venue.

At Press time, men of the Nigerian Army have taken to the roads again, to clear the obstacles.
