Association of Technology Inclined Visually Impaired Persons of Nigeria President, Tolulope Aluko has on Tuesday accused security guards attached to the Federal Civil Service Commission, Abuja, of brutalizing the association members during a peaceful protest.
In his statement, he said, the Association held the peaceful protest to plea to the commission to heed their request for employment. According to him, they had been seeking employment from the commission since 2020 and that they visited the commission in July last year and were told to come back. They came back again on April 11, but the commission didn’t answer them.
He noted further that when they got to the premises of the commission, they were told to come back, but his colleagues refused to leave. Thus, they embarked on a peaceful protest right before the newsmen but the security men started battering them when they (newsmen) left. Aluko disclosed further that the members who are seeking employment are fully qualified with the necessary qualifications.
Members of the Association who were brutalized bemoan the commission for ordering security to carry out the attacks on them. They said the commission didn’t go by what he promised in a press release on April 13, when the commission pledged five percent of the jobs in the civil service to people living with disabilities.
However, the commission contacted for a reaction, and the commission’s Deputy Director, Press & Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, reacted and said he did not have the authority to speak on the matter.
Balogun claimed the person authorized to speak on the matter had traveled. In the latest development, A lawyer, Festus Ogun, has described the attack on the protesters as a gross violation of their right and urged the President to bring those officers to book and the protesters to seek redress in court.
