The Nigeria Labour Congress has disclosed that the ongoing nationwide strike would continue today despite the agreement signed with the Federal Government at Monday meeting.
The NLC confirmed the development in a post on X today. It said “Until we hear from our organs at our meeting scheduled for today, June 4, we are still on strike.’’
The congress held a six-hour meeting with the FG in Abuja on Monday, where president Bola Tinubu offered to raise the minimum wage to N60,000.
The resolution reached at the meeting was signed by the Federal government and representative of NLC. The resolutions are ;
“1) The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria is committed to a National Minimum Wage that is higher than N60,000
“2) Arising from the above, the Tripartite Committee is to meet everyday for the next one week with a view to arriving at an agreeable National Minimum Wage;
Labour in deference to the high esteem of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria’s commitment in (il) above undertakes to convene a meeting of its organs immediately to consider commitment; and
“3) No worker would be victimized as a result of the industrial action.’’
