Nigerian Army rescues pregnant Chibok girl

The Nigerian Army deployed to North-East have rescued one of the Chibok girls, Lydia Simon abducted in 2014. This was confirmed in a statement issued by the department of Army Public Relations.

According to the statement, Lydia was rescued alongside her three children by the troops conducting Operation Desert Sanity III.

The statement reads “Lydia, who was on serial number 68 among the abducted missing Chibok Secondary School girls, was rescued along with her three children by troops conducting Operation Desert Sanity III, around Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. Lydia was five months pregnant at the time of her rescue and claimed to be from Pemi Town in Chibok.”

As of now, out of the 271 students that were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents, 57 girls escaped shortly in 2014, 103 were released through the intervention of the Federal Government, 20 others were freed by the efforts of the state government while 92 students are still in captivity.
