The Oyo state government has announced the temporary closure of the General Gas Akobo Flyover from 7om on Friday July 15, to 6am on Monday July 18.

This development was made known through a statement issued by the state commissioner for Public works and transport, Prof. Daud Sangodoyon on Friday.

According to Prof. Daud, the brief closure of the flyover is to allow Asphaltic Surfacing of its approaches from the two sides. He further urged drivers and commuters to work together with security agencies and Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA) stationed on the road by  obeying diversions and road signs positioned on the road.

The statement read “This is to inform the general public that the new Overhead Bridge at Basorun/ General Gas Area of Ibadan would be closed from 7pm on Friday 15th July, 2022, to 6am on Monday, 18th July, 2022. The closure is to allow for the Asphaltic Surfacing of the Bridge and its Approaches from the two ends.

“It will be recalled that the Bridge was opened on Friday 8th July 2022 to ease the expected heavy traffic in that axis during the Eid-el-Kabir holiday.

“The general public is enjoined to honor diversions and road signs that would be put in place. Also, kindly cooperate with the contractor as well as officers of the various security and traffic management agencies to mitigate inconveniences, while ensuring prompt completion of the affected section for the ultimate benefit of the public,”
